UK - Sheffield

Timeline - April 2018 and Mar 2019

Couple of trips to Sheffield and was able to do lot of walk around by the city center. Sheffield is a historic, old city in Yorkshire. The city is formed around River Sheaf. Sheffield is an industrial town located in 1 hour distance from the popular Manchester. Sheffield is also very popular for Football and cricket.

Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul

Nice architectural Cathedral. We visited in the evening on a sunny day and it was excellent to see the painted glass windows in the Cathedral. The model of the Cathedral shows in which centuries the Church has been constructed - in parts. Overall, a nice visit and authentic feel of history.

Cathedral Church of St Marie

Nice architecture and buildings of Church in the town. This is just a block away from Town Hall on one side and opposite to Crucible Theatre. This is a Roman Catholic cathedral in a lane in the heart of Sheffield.

Crucible Theatre

Crucible theatre is just in the centre of city. It is a minute walk from Peace gardens and couple of minutes walk from the Sheffield station.

Sheffield Winter Garden

A place for gathering - and getting warm during winter. This place hosts a bunch of exhibits and useful for people to get around and spend time. There are some shops selling Sheffield souvenirs as well. No entrance ticket - however there are donation boxes anywhere and everywhere.

Millennium Gallery

Nice Exhibits at the Millennium Gallery - this is inside the Sheffield Winter Garden. There is no entrance tickets ; however we can see donation boxes all around. The exhibits are quite interesting, artistic and creative. The gallery is worth a visit.

The Peace Gardens

Gathering place in heart of Sheffield town - just a place where people can get to gather and have a pleasant time - especially on a sunny day. Very popular landmark for people to meet. The fountains are an important attraction here.

Sheffield train station is situated on a old building and looks good at any point of time. Walk around the city center and by the river, one can see lots of historic building and arches.

UK - Cheddar Caves

Timeline - Apr 2018
Tripmates - Karthik, Siva & family

We had purchased online tickets included a visit to the Gough Caves, museum of pre-history Cox's cave (Dreamhunters of the early days) and a walk up The Jacob's ladder. Parking is not free and you need to pay and take parking tickets before the Cheddar caves.

Gough caves is calcium formation and quite interesting. The place is well maintained. Though it looks quite colourful, at times, it looks single lighting could have kept it quite better and for photographs. One can go around and have good time for close to 1 hour. Having visited many such caves, this one was similar and was pass by for us.

Next, is the shop - Cheddar cheese is up for grabs. Then, the Museum of pre-history- quite educative about the hunters and evolution of the place. The Cox's caves plays some videos on the cave walls and is also interesting to go around - 15 to 20 minutes.

The Cheddar gorge view walk - around the place looks to take around 90-120 minutes. It starts with the climb on the Jacob's ladder - around 200+ steps and then take left to get some good views.

Overall, a good day outing. We had some fries and juices before starting back to Basingstoke. If someone needs a lengthier day, they can trek around the place on various trails across the Cheddar gorge and valley views. One can also go to Bath same day and complete it as well.
